Online Professional Development Courses from Pickaway County ESC
Courses for Teachers, Administrators, & Support Personnel

To further serve our districts with a variety of quality professional development, the Pickaway County ESC is now offering on-line course opportunities for teachers, administrators, and support personnel. The on-line programs are produced by Educational Impact and offer these features:

• Streaming Video of program presenters, classroom demos, and case studies.
• Hand outs accompany speaker presentations. These can be printed while watching the video segments.
• The speaker’s key points are highlighted with bullet points. Animations are also used to support and enhance the video presentation.
• Ask a Question: Users can pause video segments to post questions to speakers and others.
• Survey Questions: Users are asked polling questions about ongoing initiatives in their schools. Users can then query the survey results to determine best practices.
• Assessment: Each section has a randomly selected multiple choice assessment.
• Chat rooms can be accessed which allow program participants to have ongoing discussions concerning program content as well as the sharing of ideas.
• Library: Users can query a comprehensive list of additional resources and web sites pertaining to program topics.


These courses are presented by nationally known experts including, among others, Michael Fullan, Charlotte Danielson, Doug Reeves, Bob Marzano, and Vicky Bernhardt. Practical classroom models are offered through the presentations. Educational Impact will be appropriate for those seeking course credit for licensure, those seeking to improve their knowledge of best practices, and those seeking to advance their skills through a self-paced program.

The courses are available through PCESC for $50 each and can be purchased by contacting Ty Ankrom

Graduate Credit may be earned through Ashland University for an additional fee. Graduate credit can be arranged through Ty Ankrom.

All teachers will gain a thorough understanding of how to analyze student data to target the specific needs of underachieving students. Hear from numerous national experts like Victoria Bernhardt and Michael Schmoker. 11 Video Hours

Integrating Technology in the Classroom:
National experts Alan November, Ian Jukes and Michael Fullan provide suggestions on how you can use technology to immediately enhance student learning. Observe teachers employing the recommended strategies. 4 Video Hours

Leading Learning Communities:
Learn how to excel as an instructional leader. Based on the standards identified in the NAESP document, hear recommendations from experts like Roland Barth and Richard Elmore on creating learning communities in your school. 12 Video Hours

Brain Based Instruction:
Raising Student Achievement with Brain-Based Instruction: All brains are different! This program helps teachers design lesson plans to best accommodate how different types of students learn. 4 Video Hours

The Block:
An in-depth look at Block Scheduling. Hear first hand from teachers of all disciplines who changed their instructional practice to successfully teach in longer periods of time. 11 Video Hours

Community of Caring:
Based on the acclaimed Kennedy Foundation's character education curriculum, this program teaches you how to embed the five core values of Caring, Trust, Respect, Responsibility and Family in every aspect of the school day. 17 Video Hours

Middle Level:
Middle level experts from the National Forum discuss successful school reform initiatives from the last decade. Four award winning middle schools share their experience in the journey to becoming a high achieving "School to Watch". 13 Video Hours 

Teaching the ADD/ADHD student:
This program is designed to equip teachers with techniques to more effectively address the challenges presented by this ever growing learning disorder. 2.5 Video Hours

Breaking Ranks - Revisited:
A who's who of national experts including, Bob Marzano, Phil Schlechty, Will Daggett, Gordon Cawelti, Rick Stiggins, and Robert Lyn Canady analyze the ground breaking recommendation in the Breaking Ranks document. 14 Video Hours

Promoting Academic Integrity in Higher Education:
For students in higher education, this program provides guidance on how to acknowledge the contributions of others to one's own intellectual efforts. Learn the limits of acceptable collaboration.

Increasing Student Achievement through Differentiated Instruction:
Instructional strategies for teaching students in a "mixed-ability" classroom including tiered Instruction, alternative assessment and enrichment clusters. 12 Video Hours

NIHAP: National Institute for Homeland Security and Anti-Terrorism Preparedness:
This program was designed to assist schools and communities prevent, prepare and respond to Security threats, terrorist activities, acts of violence and casualty disasters. 10 Video Hours
